A
superb Scottish whisky tour designed with Loch Fyne
Whiskies of Inveraray

 |
The tour starts at
Glasgow/Edinburgh
where our driver and guide will meet your
party. Unless you have opted for a self
drive package. We take a scenic route
sightseeing en route to our first stop
point; Loch Lomond. Here we will stop for a
breather and to admire the views over this
world famous loch. From the loch we travel
through the Argyll Forest, mountains and
glens to Loch Fyne, where we stay overnight
at the George Hotel, Inveraray. The
present Hotel was originally two private
houses completed in 1770. They were part of
a project by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, started
in 1744, to build a whole new town in
Inveraray. In 1776 the 5th Duke of Argyll
ordered that the ground floor flat of each
of these private houses would be made into
temporary churches for the Gaelic and
English speaking congregations. These two
churches are now covered by the Public Bar,
Front Lounge and Church Hall. How the times
have changed! In 1860 the two private
houses were amalgamated into the George
Hotel by the Clark family, in whose
possession the hotel still remains.
Generation seven now resides in the hotel.
The present owner, Donald Clark, has
carefully and sensitively restored and
enhanced the bedrooms, restaurants and bars
to create a unique atmosphere. It is a wee
gem in Scotland this hotel! Dinner
follows your check in with a guide to the
tour in general, chatting things over in the
bar afterwards maybe?

DAY TWO
We start with a relaxed late fully cooked
Scottish breakfast, before setting out for
our first distillery tour; Oban. Before
arriving at Oban we will take time out to
visit an amazing Scottish Kirk (church), the
like of you will have not seen before (or
again no doubt), St Conan’s Kirk.
Then to Oban …
nestling beneath the steep cliff that
overlooks Oban, one of Scotland's oldest
sources of single malt scotch whisky is but
a stone's throw from the sea. A tour
including a taste here in Oban. From here
we take you to EE USK Restaurant on
the pier in Oban, we have arranged a light
lunch here. Our day continues with a guided
tour of Scotland’s ancient historic past, as
we visit Kilmartin Glen, see and touch 5000
years of Celtic history here. The day ends
back at Inveraray. Dinner this evening is
open for your own ideas and selections. At
9pm we gather once again at the hotel, to a
private room for a whisky tasting
spectacular, in the very capable hands
of
Loch Fyne Whiskies.
Enjoy a selection of superb Scottish malts
to round off the evening. |
DAY THREE
another full Scottish breakfast sets up our day. We
set out for Knapdale to Kennacraig, where we
sail to Islay. Here we stay for the night.
During our stay on Islay we will discover many
superb malts with a specialist Islay guide. Hotel
accommodation, whisky and ferries all inclusive,
dinner on Islay with locals joining us at the bar
later. A fantastic couple of days in store.

DAY FOUR
we take the afternoon ferry back to Kennacraig,
AFTER sampling another dram or two! We return to
Inveraray again and the George. Dinner at your
own leisure this evening as we all relax after the
Islay exertions!
DAY FIVE
our final full day here in Scotland (unless you have
opted to stay longer), we use today for a wee bit of
sightseeing, as we set out to discover Glencoe,
Loch Ness and the Highlands. We return to
Inveraray for a farewell dinner, followed by another
sampling session with Loch Fyne Whiskies.
Tonight, as before, we have secured the private room
for our tasting. A completely different set of
malts are on offer this evening, along with some
nibbles. What better finale to a tour!
DAY SIX
we transfer to Glasgow/Edinburgh for your departure
homeward.
